NORTHWOOD VILLAGE UNVEILS NEW VIP CARD, WEB SITE

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (August 24, 2011) – Northwood Village, the historic neighborhood just north of Downtown West Palm Beach that has evolved and grown tremendously in recent years with the addition of distinctive and highly popular new businesses, has unveiled this week a new Village VIP card on its new web site, www.northwoodvillage.org.

The updated, consumer-driven web site by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) offers increased functionality for those interested in patronizing the area. Visitors can access maps, a complete listing of businesses, multiple ways to connect with the Village, pictures and videos from Northwood happenings, and now, a Village VIP card featuring ‘sweet deals’ from local businesses.
The VIP card is free to access from the site; once downloading a temporary card, guests can pick up a permanent one in Northwood Village, the first opportunity being at the Art & Wine Promenade on Friday, August 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. Village VIPs get access to a VIP section at the event featuring free food and drinks and other cool stuff, courtesy of Northwood Village.

“With Northwood’s growing popularity and hip, funky businesses now filling the streets, we wanted to offer visitors a specialty loyalty program where Village VIPs can access exclusive discounts and freebies at Northwood shops and restaurants,” said Kate Volman, CRA marketing and events coordinator. “And, the revamped web site is not only more useful and user-friendly, the colorful and highly visual look is also more reflective of our urban, edgy vibe.”

Over the past few years, Northwood Village has undergone a revitalization that has welcomed impressive restaurants, distinctive shopping destinations and a quaint atmosphere with a friendly neighborhood feel as you stroll the main streets. Exploring 3 dimensional Mosaics - Orbs
Tuesday - July 5 or Wednesday - July 6 for 4 weeks.

In this class you will complete a 6 or 8 inch Styrofoam orb. You will learn to apply a mesh to the styrofoam and make a design. The class will take approximately 4 classes to complete the design made from various types of glass and materials. The class is Tuesday evening 5:30 - 8:00 pm . Please dress for a mess and dress lightly for outdoor work. Cost for the class is $ 90 plus tax. Instructor - Mary Rosoff.

BASIC MOSAICS
Sat Jun 25 9-5 2 spaces available; next class July 16 .
You will complete an 8” x 13” mosaic project from a choice of several designs with simple borders. Using a wide range of colorful Italian tiles, your project will introduce you to the very basic elements of mosaics. No experience needed. Use of tools and all materials included. You will really enjoy this class.
Cost $88 plus tax. Instructor Jeff Halverson.

BORDER AND PATTERNS
A class specializing in classical Roman Patterns for backgrounds as well as border options to frame your works. On your own large sample board you will create your own beautiful Roman backgrounds with Italian Mosaic glass. All materials included. Fee $98 plus tax. With Jeff.

MOSAICTURE (Mosaics + Picture)
Sat 9-5 Aug 6 wait List only for July 9

Using traditional mosaic tiles, hand made polymer clay tiles and fused glass you will open up a new world of creativity. Your class will include all the material and supplies needed to complete a 5”x 6.5” mosaicture. No grouting will be needed. During the class you will learn to shape, impress and color polymer clay. The finishing techniques will create rich and antique looking tiles. You will also attach several small fused glass elements and several Italian made mosaic glass tiles to create this one-of-a-kind work of art. No mosaic experience needed. This class can be completed in seven hours. Seating is limited. Tuition $88 plus tax. Instructor Jeff

First Poetry Slam at Harold's Coffee Lounge a Huge Success!

Harold’s Coffee Lounge in Northwood Village hosted their first Poetry Slam on Friday, April 16th. Over sixty people enjoyed listening to twelve poets as they fought for the first place title which came with a $125 cash prize! Poet Joshua Sa-ra kept the audience smiling as he served as emcee for the night and the winner was Poettiss(pictured on the left).

Creativity filled the air as each poet shared the power of the spoken word throughout the night. “We were thrilled with the turnout for our first event.” said Keith Palagye, owner of Harold’s Coffee Lounge, “We are excited to be part of Northwood Village and we look forward to many more successful events.”

If you missed out on this fun-filled night, don’t worry because it is now a regularly scheduled event at Harold’s to be held on the third Friday of every month from 9-11pm. Registration for poets ends at 9:00pm so come out and share your talent.

Mayor Frankel Announces Winner of Northwood Village Chef's Challenge

Hundreds of people come out to enjoy the free Art & Wine Promenade on Friday, February 25th featuring the Northwood Village Chef’s Challenge. Five restaurants located in Northwood Village participated in the friendly competition by showcasing a special dish.

Attendees enjoyed delicious samplings from China Beach Bistro, Fresh Catch Seafood, Jade Kitchen, Malakor Thai Café and Supe’s Jamaican Restaurant and then voted for their favorite. Mayor Lois Frankel and Commissioner Jeri Muoio enjoyed the event and were pleased to announce the winner, Chef Noopy from Malakor Thai Café.

“This was a fun event showcasing the unique feel of Northwood Village.” said Mayor Lois Frankel. “This once blighted neighborhood has transformed into a vibrant ‘SoHo-like’ business district.”

In addition to the Chef’s Challenge, everyone also enjoyed the brand new Sip N’ Sweets area featuring complimentary dessert wines and cupcakes from Hello Cupcake and experiencing a little taste of Paris in their own backyard by visiting “Paris in Northwood” at Something Lively.

Mosaicture Class - January 22 9am -4pmMOSAICTURE (Mosaics + Picture)

Colorful, vibrant, new, a festival for the eyes are words used in describing these unique artistic mosaics. Using some traditional mosaic tiles, some hand made polymer clay tiles and some fused glass you will open up a new world of creativity. Your class will include all the material and supplies needed to complete a 5”x 6.5” mosaicture. No grouting will be needed. During the class you will learn to shape, impress and color polymer clay. The finishing techniques will create rich and antique looking tiles. You will also attach several small fused glass elements and several Italian made mosaic glass tiles to create this one-of-a-kind work of art. Your friends will be impressed and it will launch you to create larger and even more distinctive mosaictures. Leave with a completed mosaic ready to hang inside. No mosaic experience needed. This class is only available at Northwood Glass & Art. This class can be completed in seven hours. Seating is limited. Tuition $88.

Fused Glass - Saturday - January 15 and January 29 10:30am - 12:30These are the available classes for fused glass on Saturday.

Fused Glass Class available every Thursday evening 6-8pm. $25.00 per class.
